Ash and Spanish Moss

October 17, 2019

“Ash” and “Spanish Moss” are both lighter versions of the retired color “Thunder Cloud” which was created for Amy Churgin, former V.P. of Architectural Digest who wanted a full spectrum version of Benjamin Moore’s “Chelsea Grey”. Although “Thunder Cloud” has been retired, I have a formula for it. “Spanish Moss” is half of the “Thunder Cloud” formula and “Ash” is half of the “Spanish Moss” formula. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of these two colors so until I get some, below you’ll see a photo of samples of the two colors. If you’d like hand-painted samples of any of my full spectrum paint colors, visit my Online Store where you can order a variety of samples including free hand-painted cuttings (1″x4″).

“Ash” on the left, “Spanish Moss” on the right. I have used both of these colors in the Break-Through paint on exterior porch floors. It’s a much prettier gray than the typical battleship gray you usually see.

One more post on my 70 stock colors to go! After my post about “Antique Bronze” I’ll put together a post on all of the retired and custom colors that are also available to order.

Smoke

October 11, 2019

“Smoke” is a medium warm grey that works especially well with it’s darker version “Dove”. Both of these are lighter versions of my retired color “Driftwood”. The original darker version was named Driftwood because it’s a gray that has some brown in it, making it a great complement to wood tones.

This kitchen den area had gold walls which didn’t help with the temps from the hot afternoon sun that streams through the windows. Picking up on the recycled ceiling and grout from the tiles (something I normally never consider!), we repainted both walls and ceiling “Smoke”
Another view of the same room with “Smoke” walls and ceiling. We kept the same bone trim which works well with it.
A work in progress, this soon to be kitchen has “Smoke” walls and ceiling with “Edgewood Green” trim.

If you’d like to see a sample of “Smoke” or any of my full spectrum colors, visit my Online Store where you’ll see a variety of sample options in addition to free hand-painted cuttings.

Putty

October 10, 2019

“Putty” is one of my oldest colors. I created it to frame a window that looked out over the trunk of a huge live oak. The bark that color in it. It’s a warm grey that’s both a beautiful wall color as well as a versatile trim color.

“Putty” on walls, ceiling and trim work well with the wood tones in this kitchen because it’s a warm grey that can sometimes have a green cast.
“Putty” walls with “Sage” trim. Although you can’t see it in this photo, we used “Gustavian Grey” on the ceilings.
“Putty” brick and trim with “Lichen” walls and ceiling in the Sullivan Dental Center in St. Francisville

If you’d like to see what “Putty” looks like in person, you can order a free hand-painted sample at my Online Store. There are lots of other samples in different sizes as well as sample jars.
