“Titanium” is a well-balanced grey. Neither too warm or too cool. It’s a new color I created from a sample Spokane painter Mike Richter sent me. I liked it so much, I added it to my new color palette. Since it’s new, I only have photos from one project where I specified it for siding on a bungalow in the Garden District of Baton Rouge. However, designers Brian Rowe and Caroline Alberstadt recently used it on a project so I’m hoping for some photos of it soon!

We used PPG Paints’ new Break-Through Interior/Exterior Gloss on both door and porch floor. It’s as durable as an alkyd and dries in 20 minutes.

As mentioned in my previous blog post on the color “Smoke”, “Dove” is a darker version of the same color. To be precise, “Dove” is 75% of the “Driftwood” formula and “Smoke” is 50% of the “Driftwood” formula. We often create lighter versions of a color and can even do that with samples.

That’s the thing about full spectrum paints. They are very color reflective so they look different in different settings, constantly changing with the light.

“Smoke” is a medium warm grey that works especially well with it’s darker version “Dove”. Both of these are lighter versions of my retired color “Driftwood”. The original darker version was named Driftwood because it’s a gray that has some brown in it, making it a great complement to wood tones.
This kitchen den area had gold walls which didn’t help with the temps from the hot afternoon sun that streams through the windows. Picking up on the recycled ceiling and grout from the tiles (something I normally never consider!), we repainted both walls and ceiling “Smoke”Another view of the same room with “Smoke” walls and ceiling. We kept the same bone trim which works well with it.A work in progress, this soon to be kitchen has “Smoke” walls and ceiling with “Edgewood Green” trim.

“Putty” is one of my oldest colors. I created it to frame a window that looked out over the trunk of a huge live oak. The bark that color in it. It’s a warm grey that’s both a beautiful wall color as well as a versatile trim color.
“Putty” on walls, ceiling and trim work well with the wood tones in this kitchen because it’s a warm grey that can sometimes have a green cast.“Putty” walls with “Sage” trim. Although you can’t see it in this photo, we used “Gustavian Grey” on the ceilings.“Putty” brick and trim with “Lichen” walls and ceiling in the Sullivan Dental Center in St. Francisville

“Avalon Mist” was named after the legendary island of King Arthur lore because it’s a most mysterious color. It’s one of my complex neutrals that can’t really be defined in a color category. It’s so chameleon-like it constantly changes with the light and when you put two samples of “Avalon Mist” side by side, they look like two different colors! If you’d like to see a hand-painted sample, visit my Online Store where you can order free hand-painted cuttings, larger hand-painted samples and sample jars.

Ellen Kennon Design, Furnishings & Full Spectrum Paints
As an Interior Designer with over three decades of experience, I’ve learned that color and light have a tremendous impact on our well being.
Color is the quickest, most affordable way to define the overall character and feel of a space so the selection of paint colors and the spectrum of pigments which produce colors are critical.
Our paints are blended from the 7 colors of natural sunlight, so they reflect a broader range of light and coordinate more easily with the colors and furnishings around them. They are chameleon-like in their ability to pick up colors from adjacent materials and don’t turn muddy or lose their character in low light conditions like standard paints.
Although we have never advertised, we have been featured in numerous national publications including Architectural Digest, House Beautiful and the Wall Street Journal.
