Heading home!

September 4, 2008

Well, we are going to head out early tomorrow morning to drive back to St. Francisville and survey the situation.  My daughter, Alex, has school in Baton Rouge Monday morning and she refuses to miss a day.  So. . . if the generator Kenwood bought for Shadetree doesn’t have enough power for the computer, we’ll drive on to New Orleans to stay with Judge Winsberg and his wife, Isabel, who stayed with us after Katrina.  They have a huge home on St. Charles Avenue with power and high-speed internet.  It’s also only an hour away from Alex’s school, so I’ll be able to drive her there early Monday morning.  The word is that our office in St. Francisville will have power by Monday which means things will be somewhat back to normal.

Luckily, our office is located on the same power grid as the hospital, post office, bank, etc. so it will be first in line to get power.  Right now, Kenwood is having to drive to Woodville, MS and wait in line for almost two hours just to get gasoline for the generator!  Egads!  It’s not that St. Francisville doesn’t have plenty of gasoline, it’s just that the pumps need power to work!

Not to worry if you need paint tomorrow.  Alex will have my laptop and be able to call in orders from the car.  Also, now that she has her learner’s permit, she can drive while I call in orders.

Monday, if the generator isn’t sufficient to power my laptop and the power isn’t restored at our office, then I’ll leave her with our dear friend, Janie, who teaches at her school, since she has to go every day as well.  So glad things aren’t any worse and we’re so very flexible.  I can’t tell you how much I appreciate being able to still conduct business!  When you are on the “extended vacation” we’ve been on, you certainly need an income!

We sure will miss those Peabody ducks!
